Cost of DNA

Anyone have a clue what it costs to have them DNA'd? I'm just interested in having Remmi done if it isn't way expensive. If it is I'll just wait! But I'm taking Fly Boy-his new nickname since he now flies all over the freakin' house- and Byndi in for wing and nail trims Sat. Don't know how I'm going to get them there. Can't find a carry cage ANYWHERE in this stupid city to save my life. Nor can I find anything that would suffice as one. I hate living in a small city with nothing! Grrrrr.....

Thanks,
Jen

I do it through Aivan Biotech (when it has to be done) and its 20 bucks.

;)

Not expensive.

Ok, carrying cages. Try a cat kennel with a towel laid on the bottom. Tada!

Ok, that's not bad at all. Now how do u go about doing it? Do I have to have the vet do it and what will that cost?? Can any average Joe do it? Or do I need to have the vet do it?

Thanks,
Jen

Erm, you can do it yourself. Theres one method which is easy, but hard emotionally. Just pull 3 or so feathers out of the birds chest. Yea, hard emotionally! They can test off the bits of skin left on a pulled feather.

OR (how we do it)

Take a blood card in with you when you do nails. We clip em ourselves, but I'm sure you could take one with you. Just get blood from a slightly short clipped toenail on the card..then mail it.

For disease testing it gets harder because you need to be sure your getting clean samples with no contamination, but with dna its pretty simple :).
