is it an african ringneck?
Here's what I see... the eyes are almost all black and the head is still smallish and round. I'm thinking this bird is pretty young. Unless there wasn't alot of light in these photos and his eyes were just dialated because he couldn't see...

The beak is largely black/dark which is what makes me beg the question whether this is an indian or african ringneck... though I might just think he's and indian ringneck and is about 6-9 months old. The yellow band around the eyes is big--don't know if that means anything.

There is a faint lightness at the back of the neck and the green is a good bit brighter right around the beak-- I have only personnally seen males in my lifetime so I am no expert, but that is something I would equate to a male in the age range I proposed.

I am NO expert. I'm just have young male--these are the things I've noticed.

Things that might also help determine sex... speaking acutity and whether he's been dancing. I think it might be a little early for dancing though.

I dont know if this means something but I noticed that he start molting.
One of his leg is almost bold and I can see some white tiny feathers around the cage.
I read that IRN do molt around 7 months.

Joe, the first moult they have is not a full moult, so the flight feathers won't be replaced. The tail and body feathers will be replaced. That might help you tell the age.

What do you mean by his/her leg is bald? That doesn't sound normal.

From my perspective your bird looks quite mature (Over 2 years). From the shape of the skull it looks to be femalish. The green cap on the head, to me, says she has had her full molt already. She has lost those baby soft feathers too from the looks of the photos.

But i could be wrong--it's could be a boy! :OP The best way is DNA testing! :OP

Best Wishes,

im only confused because it has a black shadow on her neck. im not sure if it's the beginning of the ring.
does female have a light black shadow on the neck (front)?

another thing i noticed that he is very moody. one day he let me go close to him and second day he bites me. i don't know if this is what its called "adolescence stage".

by the way i have asked for collection kit from healthGene 3 weeks ago, but till now i didnt received it. i think i must look for another Laboratory.

do all ring necks are moody?
do females have a black shadow on their neck?
