CT Phenotype & more

Post by Ring0Neck »

We have here 2 Cleartail both raising 2 y o DNAed hens
2 diff bloodlines

Now, there's quiet a few phenotypical differences which you can easily spot.

Bird 1:
Parents: grey whwt and emerald/whwt hen

Bird 2:
Parents: grey whwt and green/blue whwt hen (she has lighter nails)

Bird 2
Lower mandible is dark red tinge of black not as black as the other's
Has pinkier feet than the B1, bird 1 has bone white feet, not a huge diff. though.
the photos are close to reality.

The differences were there all along so nothing to do with moulting.

Ben, I speak under correction but I think in Bastiaan's book there is a picture of cleartail tail feathers showing an array of different colours ranging from coloured to diluted. A few things possibly relevant to this discussion about cleartail that stands out to me is 1) there seems to be variation in the penetrance of the clear belly, with some birds showing a larger area than others, and 2) the birds split for NSLino appears a shade or two diluted compared to cleartails not split for ino. Furthermore, 3) I know of different phenotypes in grey too. I've seen a proven DF grey bird that is without any doubt darker than a normal grey bird. Either grey isn't incomplete dominant, or there is also some variation.

So much left to learn... :?
