I'm so glad I found this place!

I just got my first IRN about a month ago. A woman I know who knows I love birds called me and asked me to take her. At least I think its a she from my researching on the net.

Anyway, her name is Emerald, and even though she attached herself to dh first, now she loves me. she wolf whistles and if you blow kisses at her, she clucks like a chicken to be petted.

Hi folks. I just obtained my first irn a few weeks ago. It (last years hatchlings) is sitting on my shoulder while I type. I've spent many years taming cockatoos and galahs and thought this could be a challenge fron what I had heard about irns, but within 24 hours I had a bird that would willingly sit on my hand having had no handling. Absolutely brilliant bird who is even quite good with the children. This is definitely my new baby.

Thanks Natalie. I was hoping you'd come on. I read a couple of other bits that included your postings. Bit of further info. My irn is named Bhanu (Hindi for sun), nad has only one foot. Seems to manage quite well though. Bhanu shares the house with 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 2 cockatiels, 2 budgies, 2 dogs, a turtle, rat, tropical fish 3 boys aged 4 - 10 and my husband & myself. I think thats everyone. needless to say the place is chaos Hope 2 catch up with more people here.

Please feel free to post often and ask as many questions as you can! There are quite a few knowledgeable members on here. Believe me, they've helped me with my problem child many a time!!! So Berrynice, your baby only has one foot? What happened? Or don't u know? I'm thrilled to hear he/she is doing ok and has a loving home! Anyway, post often and we love pictures and videos!

Thanks Jen. I believe that it was either a birth deformity or mum being a bit naughty. I've tried to find info on disabled birds but can't. It just makes Bhanu more special. As a teenager I had a 1 legged princess who successfully raised her own babies all normal. Cheers to everyone.

I dont think one leg makes too much of a difference to a bird. They cant really hold their food though, but they dont have to. My IRN Growls has a sore foot at the moment. Sometimes when he lands on the perch he puts his wing out against the wall to kinda hold himself up. Accidents do happen and feet are usually the first thing to get into trouble.

Do you have your bird clipped?
