Ahh, don’t stress. You have to take into consideration that Ringnecks are not like most parrots. They truly are in their own category. Ringnecks do not form strong bonds like most parrots. They can quickly and easily accept a new mate and quickly change their minds.

My breeding pair, which I have had for almost two years have nothing to do with each other until breeding. The male stays leery of the female and usually stays clear of her. I don’t understand how the owner told you they were already bonded. Ringnecks do not bond unless you have a unique scenario, which I believe is highly unlikely. When I use the term “bond,” I strictly mean Ringneck to Ringneck. And it’s not impossible, just highly unlikely.

It could be that your males are just hanging around together until the female starts to show signs of breeding.

Also, if a parrot is handfed they usually have problems when it comes to courting and mating correctly. You might want to do research into your Ringnecks past. Handfed Ringnecks can take a couple of seasons to “get it right.” I have a handfed lovebird that continually mates with his perch. Will he ever figure out to mate with his mate? Only time will tell.

Just enjoy your Ringnecks for who they are and before you know it, you’ll have babies. Also they are still new. Plus we don’t know their natural behavior of Ringnecks in the wild. Do males hang around each other until breeding season? After all, Ringnecks are not monogamous.

So I guess what I am getting at, don’t over analyze your parrots behavior. Some male Ringnecks have been known to mate with females, then totally leave the female to fend and care for the nest herself.

I sent the feathers away to be tested and I finally had the man call me back after I had called and left a message on his machine at the birdsrusintampa

Well, he said my 2 blues are male and female but what really shocked me is that he said the feather test for my husband's lutino came back as a female and this one has a red ring around the neck.

Isn't it always the male that has the ring?

If this is the case and we want to mate the male with both females would I have to take the male out of the cage he lives in now with the blue female? I have noticed before that this lutino and the blue male were playing with each other which looked to be liked they were kissing with their beaks , is this a sign of possible mating?

These ringnecks are truly in a class of their own.
