can't wait to upload the pics of my babies, picked them up on Friday (they were only 8days old) and have been handrearing them both since!

Hi and welcome
I thought in Australia you weren't allowed to bring home unweaned baby birds from a breeder?
Anyway, can't wait to see pics.

Hi skyes_crew,
Thanks for ur post! Well they aren't from a breeder as such, my dad has two pairs of IRNs, he had the yellow lacewing male and I bought him a blue lacewing female earlier this year and they bred within a couple of months to our surprise! From four eggs one was infertile and two hatched within a day of each other (19/9/13) and the other egg was squashed, it hatched but the mum neglected it and the third baby died

so I have the two eldest that hatched

Best way to upload pics is create a free imageshack account, upload your pics there, and then post the link for forums into your posts here and your pics pop up

nope no link showing, read through, and it gives you the specific option of the link to use in forums, then the pictures show up directly in your post, and we dont have to click on a link and go to a seperate page, we can view it right here in this forum

Oh that is very exciting. Looking forward to follow you and the babies. I am planning on handfeeding two in spring here in denmark - which will be april /may

so will look forward to hear how it goes and deffinitly see pictures.
About pics.. do they not need to be a certain size small to be able to upload on these pages ?

I have noticed people that are able to upload photos from the first day as members....I'm not sure how. But the forum rules are that you must be a member for 5 days and have at least 10 posts to be able to post photos. It's a security feature installed to prevent spam.

there is a sticky post all about posting photos somewhere around here lol.

I'm so utterly rubbish at posting photos I've had to keep going back to that thread to remind myself how to do it!
It's in the 'miscellaneous' section, at the top.

They are nice and content in that pic after their feed! I'm am following a guide that Donna put on here in regards to he times and how much to feed etc and it is working really well! Babies are eating 6cc each feed every 4-4 1/2 hours crops are emptying nicely

they have character already it's amazing!

It must be so rewarding and satisfying to hand rear your babies, we did it with our first IRN (well my mum did, I wasn't old enough at the time) but the breeder I got my Doodlebug from wouldn't let him go before he was weaned. Of course I completely understand his interest in the safety of his birds and it's commendable, I just wanted that bond from the start and I fully understood the commitment needed and I had the time to do it

Of course I wouldn't change Doodlebug for the world but our bond would've been far greater by now and at least I'd be able to have him on me without the bites!
Lovely little chickies you have there, keep posting

They are just the cutest little munchkins

they love cuddles! I think their feathers are just starting to come through and it looks dark under the skin so I believe they will be blue!! I will take some pics tomoro. They grow too quickly!! I can't wait for this weekend, going to go buy them a little perch to lie down in their box so they can start practising

and I also have a little stuffed toy in their which I catch them snuggling up to, so cute!!

You never ask a lady her age Alphawolf!
I'd love to see your babies progress, do keep posting, they change so quickly but I guess they have to in order to survive (and feeding them every few hours during the night must be tiring too-but I'd have done it

)
It's lovely they'll grow up together too so none of this fighting/seperate cage malarkey.

I'm so excited to see what colour they will be!!! Obviously they look blue, the mother is a blue lacewing and the dad a yellow lacewing.. But the feathers on their body look white???

That's the down you're seeing

if the mom was a blue lacewing (pallid) and the dad was a lutino then your offspring could be either lutino or PallidIno. The lutino would be female. The PallidIno would be male.

The pic is a little dark, but if my eyes are not deceiving me, he may be a turquoiseGrey Pallid. Those results would be
1.0 grey(sf) turquoise(parblue)Blue pallid Dad
x 0.1 blue pallid. Mom
% from all 1.0 Boy babies
25.0% 1.0 grey(sf) blue pallid
25.0% 1.0 blue pallid
25.0% 1.0 grey(sf) turquoise(parblue)Blue pallid
25.0% 1.0 turquoise(parblue)Blue pallid
% from all 0.1. Girl Babies
25.0% 0.1 grey(sf) blue pallid
25.0% 0.1 blue pallid
25.0% 0.1 grey(sf) turquoise(parblue)Blue pallid
25.0% 0.1 turquoise(parblue)Blue pallid
All of the babies would be pallids. Either blue, turquoise, grey, or turquoise grey

Charlie and Harley 20 days old

) eating better again I think when I got them out of their box to feed they were getting too cold.. So I have a heat mat and it's helped a lot!!! Eating 9-10cc each feed and crops emptying each time, so happy!

A friend had babies so they said I could have one!! He/she is so much bigger than my lil babies!! They all cuddle each other sleeping like they've known each other for ages! So I had a cage but needed to upgrade to a bigger one now but ill keep the other just in case I may need to separate in the future (hopefully not touch wood) and hopefully next weekend il start putting them in their in the day (cage is inside) and at night back in their box! It's all happening now, can't wait to train all these babes! My 3 1/2 week IRNs are pretty much stepping up on my hand now which is fantastic!!

Jessica that cage is huge!!! But what is the bar spacing? It looks like its made for a macaw or at the very least a cockatoo. Those bars would be too wide for ringnecks or Alex's. their heads could easily get caught. Could you measure the widest distance between two bars on the cage?
Also, I would wait another two weeks before trying to place them in a cage during the day. The large openness is not a feeling that baby birds enjoy. At around 5-6 weeks maybe start placing their container inside the cage to get them used to it.
