Hello everyone,

A few days ago I began to notice Joey feathers on the floor. Since then, the volume of feathers on the floor has increased. I am not 100% sure of Joey's exact age, but her "estimated" hatch date is April 11, 2013. I know that her hatch date is close to this, as it marks the day the her clutch-mates started to hatch. That would make her about five months old. Is this normal? It seems early to me...

Do you see the little pin feathers peeking out? If so, then it's a moult. Because most of our birds live inside, our heating/air-conditioning, lighting, etc. can influence how often they moult and can trigger them early or late.

Yes, she has plenty of pins. She looks scraggly as well. I was just worried that she was a bit early for her first molt. So far it is mainly just the head, and upper body. She has not lost any wing or tail feathers yet.
