Can anything be split to violet? I'm trying understand the whole genetics..

I have a pair blue lacewing male x violet female and I kept two of their offspring two blue lacewing so are they split to violet?

Another thing I live in Texas and have four violet females breeding age would like to trade one for a violet male or other rare male breeding age! Thanks

no birds can be split for violet , violet is a co-dominate mutation just like gray

I think you mean violet is an incomplete dominant mutation. Grey is dominant.

Skyes, some would actually disagree with your statement, seeing violet as dominant as well with no difference between SF/DF phenotypes. However, I do believe one can see a difference in SF/DF, so I also think it is incomplete dominant.

Johan, I stick to incomplete dominant in violet for the fact that in the nest an SF/DF can easily be distinguished. Not as easy sometimes as adults though With a grey, unless the history of the bird is known, there is no way to tell SF/DF from each other thus making it a dominant mutation. Is that correct?

Sounds about right to me.

Side by side a DF Violet is easily recognised next to a SF Violet. The problem is shown when comparing DF Violet to Dark Violet and Deep Violet.
