Need help is this Emerald a clear head fallow

I'm looking for some help from someone who knows about Clear Head Fallow indian ringnecks please.
I purchased a Emerald split for Cleartail when it was a young hen , now she is 2yo and her eye still resembles a young bird,
I questioned the breeder when the bird was nearly a year old about her eye but he insisted it was split Cleartail.
I am a little concerned that the bird is a Clear Head Fallow, can anybody help me identify the bird or let me know what I should be looking for apart from her eye's.
my concern is that I have paired her up with a blue Cleartail, not sure what the breeding outcome will be but I think they will breed all splits ?
any help will be appreciated

Hi Gratz,
Do you have more pics? please upload them and out of the sun also.
It does not have to be CHF just because it has black eyes, Tienie and others have black eyed ringnecks, hopefully they can have an input.
My first impression i get when i look at her is that she is CHF emerald
However: Beak: Lower mandible is black ?? then it is not a CHF
in the event that she is CHF:
you have to keep in mind: even if she is CHF, she will be split CT as I assume 1 of the parents were CT
therefore your offspring will be CT's split to CHF and double splits. (some breeders will not be too impressed)
add more pics so we can better look at it's color
here's a comparisson of pics (they don't have to be accurate due to lighting) of ur bird and 1 of my pics of young emerald

PS If my eyes don't lie your bird has darker eyes compared to normal CHF but there is dark eyed CHF and i have both types

My verdict: not CHF
reasons: black lower mandible, color seems normal emerald and nails seem greyish darker then CHF

The eye does look dark plum red in one picture. Perhaps a photo taken with a flash could help?
But I agree with Ben on the lower mandible. That would be strange for chf.

Hi Gratz,
there are some cleartail offspring birds which show such dark plum red eyes. I think Tienie is owning one in cobalt. Another breeder of the UK was reporting such a dark eyed ringneck at the yahoo discussion group seee here:
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Gene ... sage/17379. Unfortunately his website is gone.

But pics could be found here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Genetics- ... 20&dir=asc
So the dark eye could be caused by the cleartail mutation or by a hidden (means the bird is split for another "fallow" mutation) mutation. May be it is CHF.
greetings.

Hi Glen- try a different device- some cameras won't show red eyes with a flash (your CT should be showing red eyes).

Thanks Sheyd
yes that's why I put the cleartail in the pic,
maybe my camera is too advanced and automatically removes Red Eye lol

yeah, mine won't either- I have to use my mobile's flash if I want to show red eyes

Well I waited for the sun to go down but didn't get the desired result, photo was taken with my phone camera with the flash on, will try again tomorrow in daylight with the flash on , see what happens then.

Gratz, Shey, Ben, Stefan and Johan
Stefan I agree this dark eye colour is found in cleartail mutations. Page 555 in Bastiaan's book you will find a comparison between sf grey turq cleartail hens but what he didn't mention is the difference in the eye colour. Hen on left has a dark eye.
Gratz I think you can trust the breeder that the hen is a split cleartail. I own a split dark eye split cleartail, dark eye/cleartail and one dark eye cleartail.
Attached some pics for comparisons
ef (sf) sl edged dgreen cleartail (dark eye)
dblue/cleartail?/pastel?
What I can mention is that the eye colour is a recessive inheritance.

Tienie ,
Thank you very much for that information ,
My concern was mixing something unknown or undesired into the cleartail line but now I think I will leave the pair together for this breeding season.

Gratz
Call it Dark Eyed Emerald
We could have mutations/modifications that do not change a birds phenotype in this case it could be just the eyes.
Of course you should find out as much as you can about parents and their parents and the rest of the offspring if anything unusual was bred. if others had black eyes.
Tiennie would know if they will also breed offspring with black eyes from his experience...

Thanks Ben
kind of has a ring to it lol
I like it
yes would be interesting to see if it reproduces black eye offspring , but as Tienie said it is recessive so I don't think it will,
looking forward to see what Tienie has to say
thanks

Interesting info Tienie- thanks for that.
On Glen's bird:
I must admit that I was expecting the eyes of the Emerald to glow red with a flash and was surprised when they didn't. I also haven't seen a bird with eyes like that unless it was a Clearheaded Fallow
