2nd batch of eggs...

My older female IRN (over 13) lays 4-5 infertile eggs every spring despite my best efforts to discourage her. I reduce her daylight hrs. change her diet, remove nesting materials, move her cage, etc. I leave the eggs with her until she abandons them. This is the first year she has begun a second batch, two eggs so far. I am so afraid she will get sick or die from the effort, she is so thin when she finally leaves the eggs. What can I do short of a visit to the vet to stop the egg laying?
Thanks for any ideas.

Unfortunately you can't stop what's already begun. Just make sure she has plenty of fresh food and water. Plenty of cuttlebone or oyster shell. And maybe next year when you're heading into breeding season transfer her to a smaller cage just for breeding season. I've also heard that foods low in sugar and carbs help to reduce the nesting urge. I hope your bird is ok.

Try removing the nest box. Check eggs to see if fertile and if so maybe consider incubation if not remove them. Provide plenty of food, fresh and seed. Good luck and I hope all goes well.
