sex-linked cinnamon question(s)

We saw an ad on Hoobly for a Blue Cinnamon baby. Gorgeous baby! I spoke to the breeder and he told me the parents are a Violet cock and Lavender hen. I know I need to buy the genetics book, but in the meantime, I'm trying to remember my sex-linked info. (it's been a long time since I used those mental files:) Sex-linked goes opposite? If the hen is cinnamon, then the offspring is male? Also, if both parents are a variation on Violet, why would the baby be blue?

Thanks!
Dee

Hi Dee

Firstly, in order for that pair to breed visible cinnamon blue, the male has to be at least split cinnamon.
If you only have the hen cinnamon you will not get any visible cinnamon birds but all males split
If male is violet split cinnamon X Lavender Hen (cinnamon violet) hen
50% of the young will be cinnamon in males n females.

two single factor violet parents will breed blues also, about 25% of young will be blue (with and without cinnamon)

Thank you.
So, Dad must be split to cinnamon and no way to know gender of baby. Darn, was hoping to know.

I'm still considering buying that advertised "Blue Cinnamon" baby. I have been playing around with GenCalc after reading the tutorial. The breeder tells me that the parents are Violet male split to cinnamon and Lavender female and that this year in two clutches they produced 2 violets, 4 lavenders and 1 blue cinnamon. However, when I plug that pair into GenCalc, I get ALL variations of green violet, with and without cinnamon. SF and DF only changes the percentage, not the colors. Sooo, who's wrong here? I will say that the picture of that baby has a lot of green showing. Sort of blueish on the front..... I'm confused.
