Creamino

I have a creamino ringneck, it's hand raised and really the most lovely ringneck I've ever owned. It's ultra affectionate, follows me round like a dog and loves scratches. It'll be a 3 year old within the next few months. I'm wondering whether it's possible to visually tell the gender of the creamino mutation, as there isn't much of a sign of a ring (less than a mature green female for example). I've tried to browse a few sites and pictures, but it's always hard to find a good shot. I have read that the creamino cock does get a light ring similar to the lutino cock, but I'm still not 100%.

Frankie also lacks the really long tail feather of a mature male in breeding condition, and also absolutely loves trying to get into my spare nest boxes. I think it's a hen, but I would like a second opinion before I commit to either assuming Frank is indeed a she, or before I go to the trouble of a DNA test.

I want to know the gender of Frank as I am looking to breed it, showed a few signs that it is really keen to breed and if it's that desperate I think it'd be mean not to let it!

Thanks

Does sound like a hen. At 3 most mature males already have, or have signs of a ring.

If your female is already well bonded to you, it may be difficult to find her a mate that she'll accept- though there are members on here who have successfully bred pet birds- maybe they could help you out.

As for being mean- re: not letting her breed, that would be a human emotion rather than the birds perspective- I have a pet Wildtype Green who sounds exactly like your bird- but she is 'in love' with my son who she 'clucks' to and makes 'nests' in his room :) I will more than likely never breed her as I have no desire to try and pair her off.
