Here are the UV-pics of John:

Re: Indian Ringnecks Under UV lighting
Hi John,
any UV pics of your special dom. pieds? For example of the violetgreen with saddle?
Furthermore do you have a uv pic of the backview of the violetgreen hen with the yellow spot in the back?
thx in advance.

At the moment it is raining here so when the weather is favourable I will take those pictures.

Thanks for the pics, John. And Madas for uploading. I find the green UV reflection on the wings of the green CHF cock rather interesting. It is a bit out of character, as in my limited experience playing with UV, green series birds also show yellow fluorescence.
@John: Do you own birds with the emerald mutation? I would love to see some UV pics of those.

Sorry Johan I do not have any emerald mutation, I am very happy with my Turquoise, although I have bought an indigo hen to compare them to. And when I can I will take a UV picture of her.Johan S wrote:Thanks for the pics, John. And Madas for uploading. I find the green UV reflection on the wings of the green CHF cock rather interesting. Come now, John. Treat yourself a bit with an emerald bird. I'm sure you want one. Or two.

I would like to know if Emerald would improve my Violet green pied with the so called saddle or would it simply wash the deep yellow out as Emerald just mixes colours as turquoise separates them.Johan S wrote:Come now, John. Treat yourself a bit with an emerald bird. I'm sure you want one. Or two.
just my opinion

Beautyfull pics !!!!
This is the first time I can see a uv pic matching what I see in the flesh with my uv torch. Deon's pics were overexposed (or he was using an uv source with a very broad espectrum) trying to get the maximum of ligth to improve pics quality ... but the result did not allow to detect the subtle differences we can see in your pics. Your clearhead fallow and lutino pics clearly show that there is a difference in the fluorescence quality of the head (deep yellowish) respective to the body (ligth greenish). When I first saw this difference I thougth of different types of fluorescent psittacins. Now I rather think that the fluorescent psittacin molecule could be the same in both body areas, but the colour we can see under uv could be different due to a different feather structure in the head than in the body as previously discussed. If it was the case it would be great to study fluorescence in birds showing mutated feather structure and psittacins (Grey SL-ino, Dark SL-ino or Violet SL-ino).
If the colour of the fluorescent psittacin is dependent on feather structure ... it would point to Emerald (different fluorescence) as a structural mutation.
Could you post some pics of normal adult and young green male and female birds with the same setting conditions? ... just to point to sex and age differences in fluorescence.
Congratulations. Really good pics.

Re: Indian Ringnecks Under UV lighting
It will provide a softer yellow tone over most of the body for blue series birds, but nobody knows 100% for sure what would happen with emerald in your green violet pied bird. Somehow, no reports on emerald in the green series are made, so most of us are wondering about this.
Re: Indian Ringnecks Under UV lighting
We do not even know if what we call Emerald is a blue or a green series birdJohan S wrote: Somehow, no reports on emerald in the green series are made, so most of us are wondering about this.

Recio,We do not even know if what we call Emerald is a blue or a green series bird
An Emerald blue should be easy to confirm
Offspring from a grey emerald to a blue bird
this pairing we know for a fact that the emerald was not a green bird
working backwards

Could you try to develop this pairing (Grey Emerald x Blue) considering both possibilities (Emerald as a green or as a blue series bird)? You should also consider in the "Emerald as a green series hypothesis" that the bird is split Blue since every Emerald has been paired to Blue series birds till now. You will remark that both explanations are possible.

Re: Indian Ringnecks Under UV lighting
I am pairing an Emerald cock to a green buttercup/blue hen this season, this may give an insight if all goes well...yes?
This Emerald cock last season was pair with a sf violet hen and produced a blue, a violet and 2 emerald violets.
