curled feet

my female RN has curled toes and the nails are almost curled back into her feet. the guy i got her from said she was not hatch that way. could this be from 2 small a perch . she is about 12 months. any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,
I have actually bought a few budgies that have had this same problem. A lot of bird centers, shops and vets refuse to clip birds nails as it can actually upset them and disturb their balance. Try getting your bird used to you touching it's feet and try to file the nails of your bird no more then a few mm. If your bird is not hand tame, introduce some sandpaper perches, and also look into buying thicker perches for her.

I use cement perches and natural wood perches (the thick ones with plenty of bark on them are the best) with my guys.

You can file them rather than clip them? We have a Quaker parrot that is a bit long in the nails right now--can I just take my nail file to them?
