Hi all,

My new IRN loves sunflower seeds so much, that sometimes he doesnt eat other foods being given to him. Is it bad to his health if he will eat sunflower seeds everyday? I have read somewhere else that too much seeds is not good to a birds health, can someone experienced on rearing IRN, please help?

Thanks,
Leo

Yup, eating ONLY seeds is bad because then they are only getting some minerals/nutrients and getting none of other kinds. Just don't give him sunflower seeds and he will eat the other foods. I only use sunflower seeds as a treat.

Tnx Melika,

I think I'm gonna try not giving my Rich any sunflower seeds on Saturdays & Sundays ( days of no-work for me) so i can oversee how he is doing with other food. Let me ask though, how are u serving carrot, cooked? or not? Coz I have tried to give him a raw carrot and he hardly bit it ( can it be because it is hard that's why he cannot bite it?) Please advise how do I serve him veggies. for the fruits ok I know they should be ripe :P

Thanks in advance guys...

It's not fruit, but try some plain, luke-warm oatmeal. Plain, no sugar, no flavour, no salt. Room temperature or a little warmer. Not hot. minimally cooked.

Hane prefers his carrot shredded or cooked. My sister's IRN would only eat finely diced veggies, while Hane tends to like larger chunks so that he can hold it in his foot. Some birds prefer veggies on a kabob or woven between the bars of the cage. It will depend on your bird's tastes. Experiment. :)
