How long should I wait till I let Ziggy out?! He's wanting it so bad I can tell!!! It's been nearly a fortnight home, his favourite is apple, and he seems to be getting exited when I make the ting ting ting noise with his treat jar... So... He would eventually come home, I thought if I give normal food and veg, but hold back the apple and monkey nut for the day before, so pop that into the cage when he should go back in. No way I could catch him in my home it's all open plan so lots of putting aways in the kitchen ect... I'd make sure I had the whole day off with him too... When shall I do it?! He wants it but I'm worried?! X HELP! X

I'm a believer in letting their behaviour be your guide, so I'd just give it a go providing you can make the environment safe. If he is flighted, make sure you have the blinds/curtains down so he doesn't try to fly through the windows. Do you have any ceiling fans? When Janey was little, she would fly up there and I was worried she'd chew through the electrical cables. Remove as many flight obstacles as possible. If you can, have some high-ish perches (about your eye level height) to encourage him to sit on (play area). As you said, make sure it's a day you don't have to be anywhere at a particular time. You could try letting him out just before it gets dark. Once the place starts to get dark naturally (don't use artificial lights) he should go back to his cage. You can turn your lights back on once he is in the cage again.

Is he taking food from your hand yet?

I don't own a net but if you are worried, you could have a net (and a stepladder) on standby.

Ellie.

Ok, I think that's all great! No he's not taking food yet but looks interested through the bars at it and is building confidence slowly. I could use a bathroom but there lots of glass (showers ect) I think it'd be a scary experience getting him in there too... Could put a dark sheet over the glass though... Hmmm. Tricky!
