HI guys/gals I got a problem I just got a male and female tossed in my lap. My friend bought them for his mother at a pet show, but then she had to move in with her mom to help her out a week later. He had them for about a month maybe 2 on an inclosed porch away from everyone and he wasnt taking very good care of them. So when i found out i asked if i can have them.
The male isnt mean so much as shy and runs/ flys away if u try to touch him or if u get to close. Now its ok for him to fly to u and try to steal your vegi's which i let him he even started a tug of war with my wife and her bowl of cheerios.... now the female has plucked some of her feathers out, cant fly and is as mean as mean can be. she FREAKS out if i stick my hand in the cage or sometimes if i get to close. I need some help bad. i bought them a new cage (22L X 17W X 32H) and some toys.
Can they be tamed or am i doomed to have 2 unfriendly birds

hi the male sounds like hes tame-able just keep up with the tug of war game then try to get him to eat out of your hand and then get on your hand and then to let you touch him then to sit on your shoulder

but not all at once i wouldnt expect all of this to happen in the same session not even the same day over a long period of time at least a few days maybe even a week apart from each step

as for the female i dont really know what to do about the plucking i have never delt with pluckers before and would never buy one but it was nice of you to rescue the poor little ones it could be a emotional or health problem the vet could do a blood test for pretty much anything that could be wrong i did that for my macaw and it was about $276 but well worth it

Hey, well with the female and her plucking I would go to the pet shop and ask them if they can give you some feather pluck stuff. It is very bitter spray that you spray on the bird’s feathers, and then when they go to pull them out they get a revolting bitter taste. It doesn't cost much, and hopefully that would help. With taming, clip BOTH their wings so they can't fly. This will help them get tame and will make them even tamer than you would find if they did not. Keep handling EVERY day because these birds loose their tameness if you leave them, making it allot harder to tame them. I hope this helps love to here from you again with progress!
