Hello,
If you are looking to produce the dark factor or the violet factor you must have that mutation. There is no way to put 2 differant mutations together and produce the visual. The dark factor and the violet factor are incomplete dark factor or incomplete violet factor.Either you see it or you dont .If you see it the bird has it.If you dont see it the bird does not have it.The dark factor and violet factor birds cannot be split for this mutation.
The violet factor and the dark factor can be bred into everycolor.Since it is a dominant it can be produced in single factor birds and double factor birds.
Hope this helps,

So this explains why Baby is so dark in coloring compared to everybirdie else?

When you turn him in the light there is alot of turqoiuse/greenish blue. But like Datsun, her tail is green and blue.

So what do I refer to him as? A dark green or simply a green?

Skray and Jeremy: you are both a huge assets to the board and are very appreciated.

Us regulars need to educate ourselves on this, and many of us have to some point, but without actually doing it one cant really know but so much.

Anyways, Thanks Guys.

*gives the fellas both a sweet kissy on the cheek*

Hi Mikaela,
Another way to tell if a green is a green mutation is by looking at the 2 long central tail feathers. Each mutation has that color on their tail.

Normal green =2 central tail feathers look standard blue
Greygreen= 2 central are grey
violet green= 2 central are violet
dark green = 2 central are cobalt

To breed a Dark Green you need to make any of the following pairs:
Green x Green SF Violet
Green x DF Violet Green

As you can see, there are a few different ways to breed them. Alternatively, you could also breed a Green x SF Violet Blue or Green x DF Violet Blue to get Green SF Violet Green/Blue & DF Violet Green/Blue.

I don't know where you are from but Violet mutations don't come cheap.

Dark factors work exactly the same as Violet factors. Apparently i have been told that if a Turquoise Blue has a lot of green on it, then it has a Dark Factor. Personally, i don't think there is any truth to this because we would have had Dark Green, Olive, Cobalt, Mauve mutations in Australia already.

Turquoise is a Recessive mutation but when paired to Blue, it becomes dominant.
So if you put a Blue x Turquoise Blue you will get: 50% Blue & 50% Turquoise Blue.
I have always regarded Turquoise as a dominant mutation but in actual fact, it is a Parblue mutation and therefore must be recessive.

Depending on how much 'pastel' markings they have.
The bird in my avatar appears yellow/green from the back, but his entire front is light blue :D
