Hi All,

About 6 months ago we bought a 12 week old Ringneck, he is a stunning little thing however we are having a tough time really training him.

Don't get me wrong, he will take food from your hand, he will step up sit on your shoulder etc. but he does not particularly enjoy spending time with us and will not allow him to touch him in any other way. If he is already out he is reluctant to even step up and would rather sit on the back the sofa undisturbed.

Also, despite our efforts he doesn't make any kind of noise apart from the occasional (very occasional) squawk.

Any ideas anyone?

Your bird isn't an adult yet, so even though you've had him for six months, his personality is still developing. With my two, I find the relationship is always changing but I've noticed the bond definitely strengthens once they have reached adulthood... so I think the main advice I can give is have patience.

Also, regarding noise, I think that will probably come with age too.

If you are wanting to try some other things, introducing foraging and trick training made a difference to my guys. I won't go into detail about the types of difference it has made here because I've done it in other threads (see below).
