Intro to myself, Dexter & Mango
Posted: Mon Dec 24, 2012 12:25 pm
I am in Auckland New Zealand.
I have taken over parroting 2x Alexandrine brothers. They were both handraised by a young Lady right from the nest.
Sad news was.
Due to circumstances she has not been able to look after them the way she felt they need. So started to look for someone who she felt would give them that care. I have taken them in with the thoughts that Lura maybe able to be reunited with them.
I have had them 12weeks now, and it has been a big learning curve for us. Them because they were never around other people. And myself as I have had to learn about Alexandrine parrots.
Dexter has bonded to me extremely well and he goes to work with me some days.
Mango is hand tame, but is more at home hanging out with my Tiels who live cage free.
Both are clipped, but hopefully the day will come when I have harness trained them and they can fly as birds should.
Socialising them is what I have been doing, getting them around people. And the ultimate was to use them in a (My First ever) Bird Presentation in front of around 200 adults and children. They were super and behaved so very well, I was stunned that they took this in their stride.
My aim is to promote Bird Welfare and care, showing what can be done with love for our feathered friends.
Dexter 4yr
Mango 3yr
Looks like I will have to post photos later? Links were not allowed?
