Hi guys i noticed my yellow ring neck gene has her anklet around the lower portion of her leg, towards the joint of the foot, but my other green ring neck rio has his above the "knee" area. Is this a problem or is it a common place to put it? im worried it shimmied up and i didnt notice now hes bigger it doesnt go back down.

I can't say that I have ever noticed any ringed birds with it up above their "knee" joint, but my experience of this is only drawn from the multitude of photo's I've come across on the web of ringed birds, (and not just IRNs)......so it may not be UN-usual, but I think one of the breeders on this site should know better, and hopefully they will give you some feedback on this query.

Alternatively, you could ask your local avian vet? Does it appear tight on your birds leg also? Is it possible it is stopping the blood flow to his lower leg and foot? And do you expect his legs to grow any bigger? Good luck in finding an answer/solution

Thanks a lot for your reply Mol. My local vet is very inexperienced, at least with birds anyway. Last time i took my bird to get her nails trimmed and her wings clipped she made a pretty big mess of it, Might have been her first bird since veterinary school though, I'll see what my breeder can do - He owns over 30 ring necks currently so he may know a thing or two ;) Thanks

There is an avian vet in Chermside but is expensive.
