Help with getting my !RN to take treats.......please

Post by DawnMilward »

Hi I am a new IRN owner, my bird is male 5months old, I was told the best way to tame him is to give him treats, I am sitting and talking quietly to him by his cage, putting a treat through the bars in my fingers, he will not come anywhere near me, please help, when he does come out of the cage he will step up onto my hands but flies off straight away, so because I have been reading all your tips on here, thought it would be best to try and give him a treat while he was inside the cage. Am I expecting too much too soon, some advice on what to do please, thanks in advance Dawn :) :)

Also should I let him out of the cage, even though he will not stay on me??? as I do not want to stress him catching him to put him back, and advice welcome

If you remove the food while he is out, then replace it with fresh food he will start going back in when he is peckish. Also, persevere with offering treats through the bars, I used walnut halves and it wasn't long before Sanjay was demanding them.
