I`m 35 years and live in Norway.
I got an IRN two days ago and his/her name is Fiji. (Don`t know the gender.)
Fantastic blue color made me think of Fiji right away.
He/she is only 3 months old and VERY skeptical.
I`m here at this forum because I need to read up on this funny bird.
If anyone have tips og tricks, please write to me.
I want to do things right and take this parrot very seriously.
Me and my boyfriend have a house and no kids, so it`s very stable environment.
Hope to hear from you and THANX for this forum

I`m reading and reading every minute I`m not at work
He`s still very skeptical, so I sit by the cage 15 minutes every day before work and 1-2 hours after work, talking to him and drop him treats in his bowl.
How long shold I wait until I let him out of the cage?

That's the best way... to talk and to whistle him until it's used to you.
Try to offer him something he likes (sunflower seeds, melon...) first from outside, and then with your hand inside the cage. At the begining it won't take it, specially if is so skeptical

... just be patient. What I used to do with my cockatiel was the following: I offered her a sf seed and, after a moment offering, i ate it (or pretended i was eating it) So she could see i was offering food. IRN like to imitate too... so this can be a good method. Once it is used to eat from your hand inside the cage, it will be time to make it go up to your hand... and once it is comfortable on your hand, its time to let him out of the cage, always on your hand.
There are many methods to achieve the same goal... which one should you choose? Only you and Fiji know... and you will find it out being clever (if you don't know what to do, think you are dealing with a 2 year old boy)
If Fiji was hand reared, it will be easier... if not, it will take more time... but be patient! And If you are completely lost, just ask, I'm sure someone will kindly answer you!

Thanx!!
He still backs off from me when I try to give hims treats through sprinklers, but I`m not giving up.
Only had him for 5 days.
I can`t imagine that he will eat from my hand in the cage for weeks!!!
It`s going to be a battle.
A cute battle

Not really. He`s still very skeptical, but we`re not giving up.
He`s out of the cage on saturdays and we work very hard with him every weekend. On weekdays we are working a lot, but of course he`s getting attention, and my boyfriend puts his hand in the cage and takes it out when Fiji`s calmed down. Small steps but it`s all very interesting.
Every other week I start late at work and sit by the cage in the morning for 1 hour and just talk to him.
I have found out a favorit-food. I found the recipe here actually

That's because of the number of posts... I think you must have at least 10 (to prove you are not spam)
