We've all been talking about the "dance" that the males do. So I'm wondering what do females do? Byndi--who I'm really hoping is a male--lowers his head and poofs the feathers up on his head and pins and growls. Is this female behavior?? Does anyone know? I've never seen him do the "dance" and only seen Remmi do it once last night.
Thanks,
Jen

Mazzie lowers her head, growls, brings it back up and lets out a warning shriek from hades... then attacks.
You know how the males will dance back and forth? She doesnt, she just goes in for the kill.

Kozmo bobs her head, pins her eyes and makes some loud noises. She'll also chase Loki all around the cage when she's really grumpy.

So I'm wondering if Byndi is a female then??? Cuz he/she lowers his/her head and pins. And growls. No sticking neck straight out and bowing the wings. Hmmmm...........
By the way I love the new avatar and signature pics. of Kozmo and Loki! And you need to put some more videos on! I get the biggest kick out of those two.

I LOVE the wing bowing.
It is as if to say "I am man, hear me ROOOOAR" lol
Silly little freaks.
Does s/he walk with his nose to the ground while doing this? Males do that for a minute and then stand real tall with wings out and do a squaaaa squaaa sound. Unlike the contact call, which is more like 3 fast screeches.

Nope, Byndi just stands his ground and puts his head down and poofs those feathers up on his head big time and makes some strange growling noises. And pins those eyes like there's no tomorrow.

Peek-a-Boo would do the same thing when being pushed around or asked to step up when she didnt want to.
Definately girl behavior.

Man! I'm just getting this feeling that my Byndi might just be a little girl. No wonder she/he hates us if he's a she and we've been calling her him. But I really thought that was a ring forming. I swear there's black around his/her neck. Oh well.

Some of the hens have a very soft ring hon, not really a ring but a meeting of the feathers that implies one. Mazzie has a band of brighter yellow around her neck. I am 100% positive she's a she though, she's been with us over six years and she was an adult when we got her.
If you look at pictures of Alice you can see a soft ring. However, she is DNA sexed

I know they all have lighter colored rings don't they? But Byndi's is black and a lighter blue. I thought since there was a black ring that he would be a he. I might try to video him/her doing his/her thing and see what you guys think.

Jen .. when I went to the breeders there were birds that had shadows (grey shadows under and around) of a ring, that looked just like kai. I said to the woman, "hey that young bird over there is going to get a ring, its a boy, right ?" and she said to me .. "umm, no, thats the breeding female". I picked from the blues the same looking bird as kai, just to be sure, one that had what looked like a grey (shadow) of a ring that would mean that bird would be male, and yet again she gave me the same answer of that being the breeding female.
Thats why I was so shocked that, infact, it was possible Kai was a girl. But then that night he did that unmistakeable boy mating dance that Jeremy told us all about.
So if I were you I would not assume just by the shadow sweetie
