I have been to this site a coupe of times for information but today I decided to finally join and share some information about the two Ringnecks I purchased last August.
I have owned other parrots before and in the fall of 2010 someone stole my five year old hand raised feral cat from my yard that I was extremely attached to. I am a disabled person who lives alone so my pets are one of the only ways I stay sane. In May of the following year sitting outside with my Mother and Sister I noticed an all yellow bird sitting off in the woods about 20 meters away. There are no solid yellow bird native to this are so I knew right away this was an escaped pet. Well the little bugger flew off when we got close to him but at dusk the same evening he came right back and was sitting in a bush. So I brought a sheet out and tried agian. This time he just sat there. I had no idea of his temperment when I picked him up from behind pinning his wings so he could not fly. I assumed I was going to get chomped on but I would take the abuse until I got him indoors. Well he bent his head down towards my hand but never actually tried to bite me. Once I got him inside I opened my hand and he climbed up and sat there very calm. I had no clue what kind of bird it was but a quick check on the internet turned up this site. I had no accomidations for him so we just did the best we could. I cut up some fruit and put out some wild bird seed and he ate like he was starving.
This little bird was the most well behaved enjoyable bird I had ever seen. I made some calls and eventually found the owner.
Which leads me up to the two green Ringnecks I have now. They are both exact opposites in personality and behavior. Right now they are a little over a year old. One was extremely easy to train and outgoing. I believe its a male. He is very active and heathly. He never bite and can not wait to jump on you shoulder when you open the top of the cage. Unfortunately he is also very destructive. He spends every minute of every day try to tear apart anything he can get his beak on no matter how many verbal negative warning I give him. Other than that he is fantastic.
The other bird that I believe is Female is the exact opposite. She wiil not come to you when she climbs out of the cage. I can pick her up after she make a fuss and a lot of noise and she does not bite but she has no intrest in sitting on your shoulder. She unlike here partner does not seek out things to destroy as soon as she is free but just like to walk around on the floor and be left alone.
Even when i do pick her up she still is very nervious even after a year of me handing her. I can finally get he to sit on my finger but you can tell she would prefer to be put down.
Both birds get along with each other very nicely in the same cage though sometimes Piglet the male does like to annoy Sweet Pea the female by pulling on her tail feathers but he has almost comletely stopped doing that. So thats my story! I wanted to post pictures but this site will not allow me to apparently because I am a new member.

Thank You for the kind welcome. Yes they do keep me busy! I am unable to work due to a bad neck injury so I spend most of my time at home and with my two little feathered buddies. They help me a lot by keeping me company and entertained with there silly behavior. When i have made enough posts here I will be sure to post some pictures of the two little devils.
