ADVICE ON breeding please??

Post by TuRNBaCK »

Hi! I been searching this forum for a similar topic for days now, but I just cant find the right info/advice.
I just need a little advice on what I should do.

I got the blue male about 2months ago. he is 3yrs old, and the lady I bought him from said hes never been with another bird all his life.
Then I got a 4year old blue lacewing female 1 month ago because I wanted to breed them.
I moved them together in a bigger cage outside, but it seems that hes scared. And she doesnt even try to bite him, there is no sign of aggression at all. They dont even stand in the same perch together.
I just wanted them to breed this year so I put a nesting box a few days ago, but nothings changed with their behaviour.
By the way, the male has clipped wings but the female is not.

Is there anything Im doing wrong?
should I clip her wings?
I appreciate any advice I could get.

Personally I would just let them have a year to get to know each other fr this year... I dot think they'll do any breeding this yet, as the male doesn't even know that he is of the same kind as the female... Just lay it off for this year...
Something that may speed up the process, I'm not sure... But it could work... Is keeping a large mirror nearby, and he'll figure out sooner or later that he is that other bird :)

Those are my ideas :) just so you know, I only have experience with finch breeding, and even if a finch hasn't seen a finch, they'll breed within so months lol :D

thanks you for the tip Jonathan. Hes always had a mirror on his cage from the start, maybe your right. maybe they not gonna breed this year. Maybe if i get a blue female, it might work. someone told me that ringnecks only mate with the same colour unless they've been exposed to other colour ringneck from when they are young. I really find that hard to believe.

I really appreciate ANY AND EVERY suggestions or ideas.

My only bit to add is that I have heard you should leave the males wings and only clip the female as she is usually the more aggressive one and so it's better he has a better chance of escape from her IF she attacks him.

ok. thank you! It doesnt seem like she attacks him though. He might be just extremely shy, because EVERYTIME she gets really close to him, he just walks away from her. but maybe youre right. I will give it till saturday. If they still havent improved, I will clip her wings.
If anybody objects in the crowd, speak up now, or forever hold your peace. hehe :)
