Hello good people,
I have a cinnamon cock and would like to breed with him and I only have 2months left as I stay in south africa and spring is coming up.
I know green is a color not really sort after but is there a mutation I could breed him with to get something besides
Green?

Hi molossus,
This might be silly but what is olive/blue and I don't think I will find a true olive bird and if I do it will cost me big.

Sorry for the late response and the bad news, but you have much less time than that available. Some birds bond almost instantly, others take a lot longer (months!) to bond. Also, you'll find that many breeders in SA will already have pairs mating. The breeding season doesn't start in spring, the early birds have already started with the process.
Also, as an alternative to what Molussus proposed, you could use a cobalt hen (sacrifice one dark factor, but add another blue). Costs around R750 - 1000. You'll get more blue series birds from this combination (if your cock is split for blue), but less dark factors. South Africans are funny, most think that green series birds are inferior to blue series birds (notice the price difference, even though both proposals have three mutant genes). Perhaps this is an international trend.
How old is your bird?

Thanks johan, I guess I'll have to miss it this spring but that will give me more time to save up for a more expensive bird, my cinnamon male is 2 and I also have a year old gray male I think no ring as yet but the man I got him from sold him to me as a male, next year I'll also be looking for a mate for him

Hi Molossus, breeding the Green cinnamon cock to the Olive/blue hen will produce the following results
1.0 green cinnamon
x 0.1 DD green /blue
% from all 1.0
50.0% 1.0 D green /cinnamon
50.0% 1.0 D green /blue cinnamon
% from all 0.1
50.0% 0.1 D green cinnamon
50.0% 0.1 D green cinnamon /blue
What would you then use to get a cobalt cinnamon
Thanks
Lushen

If the green cinnamon cock was split for blue, then this will be the results
1.0 green cinnamon /blue
x 0.1 DD green /blue
% from all 1.0
25.0% 1.0 D green /cinnamon
50.0% 1.0 D green /blue cinnamon
25.0% 1.0 D blue /cinnamon
% from all 0.1
25.0% 0.1 D green cinnamon
50.0% 0.1 D green cinnamon /blue
25.0% 0.1 D blue cinnamon
Here you would get a cobalt/cinnamon cock and a cobalt cinnamon hen, but if the green cinnamon cock is not split for blue, then which chicks would you use and what would you mate it to, to get a cobalt cinnamon
Thanks
Lushen
