NEW 1 YEAR OLD IRN PLEASE HELP!!
Hey guys i just got a new Indian ringneck yesterday. She's about 1 year and 2 months old and is not tame. She's very scared of me i know i just got her and need to give her time to settle in. I let her out of the cage today and clipped her flight feathers by toweling her, after she just got on her cage and just hung out there for an hour then i had to towel her to put her back in the cage. Any tips on what i can do to start my taming process and WHEN and HOW i should start? This morning my sister and i read a book to the bird and tried offering her a treat but she just sat there. Any help is greatly appreciated! I called my local bird farm this morning asking them if they can tip me on how to tame my bird and the lady told me to put the bird in an aviary because they don't make good pets! I promised her that when my bird was tame i would take it to the bird farm and show her it myself! I really look forward to having a tame and loving bird! PLEASE HELP ME OUT

Hi Saif
The first step is to get her to take treats from your hand through the cage bars.
Check out my last post on this thread for some ideas:

There is more than one way to train a bird. I like to use positive reinforcement because it builds a relationship with your bird based on kindness.
Good luck!
Ellie.

Hey Ellie, do you know if i can start the taming process now? it's only been 2 days since i got her and she's still really shy. She doesn't even make a sound unless i try to touch her. I left her cage door open so she can come out but she hasn't came out at all?
Thanks for your reply

Might be good to just start her getting used to you for now. Make sure she is somewhere in the house that she can observe you going about your daily activities without her being the centre of attention herself. You could also regularly walk by her cage and put some yummy treats in her food bowl (try to freak her out as little as possible when you do this). Do you know her fav foods? If not, put a bowl of different cut up pieces of fruit and veg, seeds, nuts, etc. (make sure it's all birdie safe) and see what she goes for first. You want her to associate good things with seeing you and anyone else who lives in your household.
Don't worry that she doesn't want to come out of her cage yet.

hey saif my ringneck sonic was about 5-9 months old when we got him i was told i would only ever be able to get him to eat from my hand from inside the cage coz he was aviary raised i started trying to get him to take seeds from my hand through the bars after the first day i helps well if you look away from them just hold it somewhere where they dont have to do alot of climbing to get to and look away hold it for about a minute or 2 then if they wont take it put it in their seed tray in front of them and keep trying this every 20 mins or so but remember to be persistant when he takes them from your hand through the bars start trying to do it with your hand in the cage and when he will do that fine start opening the cage .. dont force them out let them come out on their own they will probably go crazy but just let them tire themselves out but not let them hurt themselves and then work on getting them use to your hand near them with treats as positive reinforcement keep doing this daily.. this is what worked for my little sonic after 2 days he would sit on my hand and head and now after about a month he loves me like he was handraised i couldnt live without him
