Hello bird lovers
I was just wondering can you put your IRN in front of the window, as I've read that you can't?
I have moved my bird in front of the window but was just wondering if that's ok?
He has seem more quiet now he's in front of the window as he sits on his swing and watches out the window. He seems happy enough

Also, how do I get my bird as my display picture?
And I've noticed when people reply to other peoples question they have on the bottom pictures of there birds or like there name and how old they are ect... (have I said that to make since? Haha) and some people out pictures up of there bird to show people, I'd love to do this please someone tell me!

Mine sit in front of a window. What is the reason given for not having them in front of a window? I've never heard that one.

The main thing about being in front of a window is the bird needs to be able to get out of the sun at all times. If they can't get out of the sun they could overheat.

I think you could make an avatar (display picture) and/or a signature (picture/name at bottom of posts), but I don't know how.

We had Sanjays cage in our west facing bay window, on the north side. He was noisy answering the wild birds and managed to splatter food on the curtains etc, so we moved him into the al alcove. He is much quieter and interacts with us more.

Three reasons for windows: draughts/drafts, heat, or wildlife.

• If the window isn't sealed well it can be a source for draughts- especially in cold winters.

• If the sun is blazing down through the window, making it very hot, the bird could get overheated.

• And this is my favourite: hawks or other animals terrifying your bird through the window.

Any/all of these can happen. Easy solutions for all of them though. Make sure the window is well sealed, and make sure he has something shady to hide behind from heat and predators.

I've never checked the window seals but I think they are pretty good. We only ever open those windows (which are screened) on the hottest of days - probably only three or four days in the year. Our house is extremely shady so I worry more about my birds not getting enough sunlight than getting too much and it doesn't stream in through those windows any way. I've never seen any wildlife at that window but I do know that they enjoy watching what is going on outside... they are on the second storey and they do get scared by the occasional gardener outside their window on the ground. I wonder if that counts as terrifying predators?
