Hello new to forum and new IRN owner

Hello everyone.

Im a first time IRN owner of a 4 month old blue IRN. I had bought him/her from a breeder who told me he was the nicest one and only a few days after I got him hes been so nasty. I understand the bluffing stage. But how can i tell if its bluffing or not? I used to raise tiels and I did some hw before getting an IRN but i think i didnt do enough. I was going to send the bird back to the breeder. But I feel bad and want to work with him. Hes deffently not like my tiels. Any suggestions if I can tell hes bluffing? I read that IRN are terrible to keep on the computer and untameable but then I read on forums and on youtube videos how wonderful they are. When I walk by the cage sometimes my IRN lounges at me and when I have them out he flies to my tiel's cage to attack her. Please im in need of advice. Thanks

Firstly, I just want to say that judging by your description, you need to keep your IRN completely away from your tiels. I can't imagine it would be nice for them to have some huge bird land on their cage and scare them.

Four months is a time when your bird could be bluffing... but it doesn't really matter whether your bird is bluffing or not because if you want your bird to stop lunging and biting at you it probably won't stop unless you do something different with your bird.

IRNs can make great companions... but in general I wouldn't say they're easy companions.

The first step with taming your IRN is to get it eating treats from your hand. Does your bird do this yet? What things have you tried so far to work with your bird? Was your bird handraised or parent raised?

We are currently working with our 6 month old who we"ve had for about 6 weeks. Bandit's personality really only became clear after about 3 weeks, it took a while for our little one to settle in. After about 3 weeks something clicked and suddenly there was a strong bond with my husband. Me and Bandit are still working on it... Anyway, good luck!
