HELP! new female aggression, eggs unhatched

We have two green ringneck parakeets, a male and female. The female has recently become very aggressive, making it difficult to feed them as she tries to peck anytime we come near and has even attacked my mothers head when she was out of the cage. They have been copulating (a lot) and we built a bird box that is entered from the cage as Purdy, the female, was trying to nest using books on a high bookshelf. There are 3 eggs and she has spent a long time in the box over the past few months but we are not sure the eggs are viable. Recently she has come out a bit more but is now exhibiting this new behaviour which is very worrying. She was a very active pre breeding and is an intelligent bird, loving to play and explore. What do you think might be the cause of such behaviour and is there anything we can do? There has been no change in diet recently. Many thanks for your time in responding. Goround

I have a female who has recently engaged in nesting behaviour so I understand the aggression but I haven't had a female with eggs and can imagine it would be way worse! Tell me a little more about your set up. Are your birds in an aviary or in your house. If they're in your house do they get locked in their cage some times or are they free to come and go as they please?
My limited knowledge of female nesting behaviour is that it is extremely natural for her to be protective and you may just need to ride it out if you want her to nest. She should return to her normal self when the nesting is over. With feeding and so forth is it possible for you to set it up so that you can do what you need to do from outside the cage?
I recently had similar problems with Janey and Imran offered some good advice that might also be useful for you:
