it was the same for me as your bird at first , if u wanna stroke it you can up from his back down to his tail . i think for starter don't touch his feet or his head or the upper part of his folded wings , mine got angry when i did that.

The problem with patting a bird on the lower part of its body is that it can confuse it and it can become sexually stimulated... and this can get really frustrating for the bird and produce bad behaviours later. Not all birds like to be pat. Only one of ours does. She would like it if I pat her all the way down her back but I only pat her on the head in an effort not to confuse her.

I think maybe you need to work on other things before you get to patting... and like I said, some birds just don't like it - in that way, they're not like birds and cats. You may have to live with a bird that you can't interact with in that way. Do you have it eating treats from your hand, stepping up regularly, etc.? You can train them to do other behaviours too. I trained mine to "go to bed". It doesn't always work but usually will if I have the right incentive. Janey will usually go to bed for a piece of banana. I used to give them an almond for going to bed but I've since learned that a whole almond is probably too big a reward.
