Hello
I'm new to this site and new to being the owner of an IRN. A friend of mine used to breed them and has been trying to re-home the babies so we're taking two. I chose to take two thinking that they would need each other's company but now I'm hearing that this was a bad idea if I want to connect with the birds. Is this true? the birds are also not used to being handled as they have grown up in an outside aviary. am i crazy to think that we can tame them? they will be living in our lounge room so they will always see someone and get a lot of attention. i was hoping that as they become tame, that they could have free flight of the house when we are at home.

Hi, I think you can tame them. I am new with IRN's too, but I am getting 2 to breed them and keep each other company. But I'm not sure how well it will go. Good luck with your IRN's!

Re: Hello
thanks for your reply, good luck to you as well. I hope you are right, they are only a couple of months old so i'm hoping that they can still be tamed. i think getting two is shooting myself in the foot a bit, might take longer to tame them.

Re: Hello
With time, persistence, patience & respect a lot is possible. You may find keeping them flighted makes them a little more difficult to work with but keeping them flighted is an admirable decision.
I have 2 tame birds that cohabitate but they were both hand raised and we got the second 12 months after the first. I also have been keeping their wings clipped but am considering letting them grow out this season.
Good luck & best wishes.

Re: Hello
the way i see it is that they are going to be family member so i want them to be as happy as we can allow. we have a lot of patience (we have three kids
) and we don't have expectation of them other than allow us to handle them gently but i understand that its a big task. i thought maybe it was impossible to tame them but knowing that they can be with time and patience, then we will put the work in. they arrive next week, i'm so excited. we have been feeding and watching some wild rainbow lorikeets in our backyard, they are so beautiful, its exciting to have our own parrots.
