Hi Everyone,
My name is Loretta and I am from central Pa. I have just purchased my babies a few days ago. They are settling in and getting spoiled as they get used to us all.

My question is what is the best way to tell the male from the female. They are both a beautiful shade of soft blue and have some teal highlights. The one has a ring of blue but the others has white in it..

They are so much like lovebirds, always together, always loving on each other, and preening each other. The one has a black patch under his bottom beak going downward and the other doesn't.

Hope someone can help.

Hi Loretta,

I'm not sure if you got an answer to your question but the easiest way to tell if your IRN's are male or female is by the ring. Males have a very dark and distinct ring around their neck while females have a VERY VERY LIGHT ring or NO ring at all around theirs. HOWEVER, the rings would not be visible until about 1-1/2 to 2 years of age in both sexes. Also, I believe the male also gets the black under part of the beak and also by his eyes. Hope this helps!
