Hello all,
My name is Nori - I haven't had an IRN, only cockatiels (I've had several over the years). Recently my last cockatiel, Sal, passed away and now I am thinking of getting another bird. I've been reading a lot about the IRN and I think that is what I would like to get. Are they bigger than cockatiels? How are their temperments? I've been reading some of the posts and they seem to be fun to have and care for. I really miss my Sal and would like to get a friend to replace him...

Welcome to the board and to our extended family! I have a cockatiel--my first bird ever-and graduated to a ringneck. Let me tell you from first hand experience, get a baby! Hand tamed and abundance weaned! Make sure you can hold the baby and it's very friendly!!! I made the mistake of buying an older one and man is he MEAN! And when these birds are mean.... it aint pretty. Don't get me wrong, I love my Byndi with all my heart. But he's not a good pet bird. They are wonderful creatures with lots of personality! They are a lot different than a tiel! They are slightly bigger, weigh more and are a lot more active! They love to play with toys. They need lots of toys to keep them entertained. They can be trained and can talk. Some talk a mile a minute and some don't speak at all. They are all individuals. They have personalities and can be very moody and demanding. But they are worth every second of your time and effort! Just make sure you have time and effort to put into them. They can be very noisy and my Remmi is one of the sloppiest birds on the face of the planet. But well worth it! There are a lot of experienced owners on this board who can offer a lot of great advice. So post often and ask bunches of questions! Once again, welcome to the fam!
