My new Indian Ring Neck

Post by mak143 »

Hi Guys!
3 days ago bought a green INR from a breeder and I guess he's a male around 6-8 months old atm. I ve named him SUNNY. Well, I have a couple of concerns here.

1. I dont find him making much noise. I heard INR's make a lot of noises. Sunny does make noise but only once or twice in a day. (Well in a way its good as my neighbours wont complain :P)

2. Until I brought him, his droppings were green. I started feeding him colored pellets mixed with seeds from past two days and gave him a piece of strawberry yesterday night and today morning I noticed his droppings changing to dark brown color a bit watery as well. (I'm really scared )

Prior to this INR I had a pacific parrotlet, I found his droppings remained quite constant in color (but he hardly used to eat the pellets).

Sunny doesn't sit in a corner nor his eyes or nostrils are runny and neither he is fluffed up. Infact, he will perch on my finger when I want to get him out of his cage and after much buttering he will wave a Hi to me

So I seriously hope there's nothing wrong out here!!

Thanks,
Mak.

i had a budgie before, and he didnt make much noise either. my one used to squeak around 3 times per week or so!
it went to normal once he identified me as a loved one. :D
so dont worry, mayb its sunny's way of saying that he's still shy.

read the other articles, with a change in food, or diet, the poop changes too. the brownish tint is de to the pellets. and the runny-ness of the poop is most probably due to the water content of the strawberry. :)

but if your still worried, u cud get him to a vet.
(u could also try by reverting him back to the diet he was previously on. and see if the color of the droppings return back to what u had seen b4)

Well I just got my new ringneck and he was quiet for about the first 5 days or so. He yaps most of the day now. He loves sitting on my shoulder and making little baby noises like he is trying to talk :) Im sure yours will start being more vocal soon.

Thans guys, yes the changes in poop color is due to the pellets. SO everything sorted for now. BTW, within how many months does the black ring come up for male ring neck? Sunny has a turqoiuse colored tail so is it a part of identifying him as a male?

The ring can appear from the second moult but it normally is the third moult. So from 18 months to 3 years of age. If he has been identified as a male he may of been DNA or Surgically Sexed or more likely from a nest of sex linked mutation chicks where you can tell sex by the colour of the chicks. Tail colour wont help with sexing.
