Guessimations?

Post by ShirleyBird »

I have a question regarding age. At what rate do birds age( Dogs have ppl years and dog yrs). I ask this to hopefully help with training( u wouldn't expect a one yr old human to ride a bike). My birds are currently 8 mths and we have only had them for abt 2 so we are still building trust. I would just like to know how to veiw them( babies, toddlers or adolescents or adults). I was also curious also abt the fact that they are mainly quite. They are vocal at certain times of the day and are making trying out lots of different sounds, but are quite most of the day. I catch myself going in to check on them when they are talking so is this sending the wrong message? I enjoy when I am able to hear them but don't want encourage being loud....any thoughts? Thx for advice and response in advance.

I would be training them now. They can live longer than a Dog and a Dog is meant to be 1 year too 7 Human years. I would guess 1 of their years to 5 or 6 of ours. They can breed from 1 year, but this is normally 2 years. That may put it in perspective.
Most hand raisers will be traing them as they are raising them and teaching them to step up and so on. Short and repetitive sessions. Lots of good books available for training parrots.

A mature African Grey parrot is meant to reach the inteligence of a 5 year old child. So, and I would only be guessing here that the intelligence of a mature Ringneck may only ever reach the intelligence of a 2 year old child.

Generally mine are at their noisiest first thing in the morning and late afternoon. At othertimes they are nosiy if someone goes near their cages like guard dogs would be.
