Hi Please let me know if this works, posting the link to my photobucket album, my male, and female, want to
see what you all think of their colouring.
My male is a turq male.
And my female is supposedly a recessive pied female, but has a light brown wash creeping into her wings, and occassionaly grey flecks at her flight feather tips.
Both are 2009 birds.
They are too gorgeous.
My male talks so so well.
And gives such sweet kisses

HI there, yes she is almost a year older now, and her colouring is showing through nicely!
So you agree she is a recessive pied then?
Shoo was a bit worried, and my male is he definately a turquoise boy?
He has lovely dark blue feathers when he opens his wings up.

Blue eyes, with the red glint in the right light...
All lutinos here have the blue eyes with red, seems to be just how they are....

Lol glenn that only about half my birds,
i have a rainbow male, with a albino female (proven breeding pair)
I have a green male, turq male, blue female x 2, blue male, lutino male, and
lutino female that i wont breed as she has no beak (i adopted her after she was attacked
in someone elses aviary and they didnt want her anymore) and my pied female.
Would like to get a pied male, and a violet female.
Think i could get some nice colours!!

I hate having avairy birds, as i love interacting with them and giving them love.
only 2 of my birds are outdoor birds, as i bought them that way!
But know i have to toughen up and build nice aviaries for them for breeding season.
My male is too precious, says hello my boy, hello baba, hello dad, good morning, what u doing?
and calls the cats!
yeah my bf always says i have enough birds, but you can never have enough with all the beatiful mutations out there.
Desperately wish i could find more pics of pied birds though!
lol nah recon the missus wont notice if you put it up when she not there, lol and if she does notice when she gets back, it'll
be too late to take it down!

Wow what are the odds 1 of mine meows like a cat n i dont have cats!!!
Yep there a way to many mutations now to have them all $$$$$$!
And that was my thought when she says what that? i will just say what! It must have breed over nite
Good luck with the aviaries!! there just as expensive as the birds! Thats why i love ebay.

Thanks so much madas. Do you think you guys could help me and explain something?
How many types of pied are there?
So far i have heard of dominant, progressive and recessive.
Now my female is meant to be a recessive pied, do you agree?
And why is it, she looks nothing like the ones in the pics above, except the 2 pics,
but their colouring goes in likes lines across their wings, but hers is not as prounounced, will that
come with age?
If i breed her with another pied will the babies have her pied colouring, which almost goes in lines,
or would they have the blotchy patchy pied look?
As that is the colouring I am wanting?
What would i get if i bred her with a blue rainbow male?
Green babies?
As she is mostly green and I am assuming green seems to be the dominant gene.
Still learning, genetics fascinate me.
They just a bit hard to understand.

Hi SBC-SA, I will let madas answer the question about the types and markings of pieds.
Madas, very nice birds not really a fan of pieds myself but have a couple of questions,
do you have a WH/WT pied that actually has the WH/WT and the body as pied markings?
The bird in the 2nd picture top left is it greygreen pied?
And the 4th last bird(3rd last) has the nicest markings in my opinion!!!

So let me remember: rec. pied (all pied birds in the pictures above), dom. pied (aka harlequin; common in australia and U.K.),
a possible new pied mutation called 'saddleback' (for me originated in the dom. pied aka harlequin), 'grizzle' pied (breed by the benton family (brothers) usa) and another dominant pied mutation (breed in S.A. and the U.K.).
I am not sure whether your bird is a pied. Could be a dom. edged bird too. the flight feathers don't fit for a rec. pied.
but really unsure.
greetings.
madas.

No. I don't own any pied at all. I haven't so much aviary space so i have concentrated on the cleartail and the opaline mutation.
dog_glenn123 wrote:

Perhaps but it could be a normal rec. pied green too. Rec. pied is known to brighten the body color and to darken flight feathers.

If i get up some better pics of her wings, do you think you would be able to tell if she is pied or not?
Thanks

Yeah. Make some better pics. Perhaps then i can identify the mutation. But i don't think she is a pied.
Her patterns could direct to dom. edged or cinnamon dom. edged green (may be greygreen). Please try to compare
her with pics in bastiaans first book page 127 or with second book page 290/291.
Here is a pic of a cinnamon dom. edged greygreen (aka golden cherry):

Yup. Then she could be a cinnamon dom. edged green female.

Then what should i breed her with to produce babies the same colour as her?
Or what babies would i get pairing her with a green male, blue male or turq male?
Would love to breed different colour babies.

ANOTHER QUESTIOON!
My female, she has very pale pink feet, with nails that are alot white compared to any
of my other birds, they have darker feet (almost blackish) with black nails,
she has peachy/pinky feet with light nails. Not very visable in the pics....

Would love to breed different colour babies.
If she is a dom. edged one (dominant inheritance) then you could pair her to any bird of your males. i would prefer turquoise. first for testing if she is split for blue and second if she is split for blue then you will get the most varying offspring.
If this pairing doesn't give you the expected offspring (of same appearance as the mother) then you could try to find rec. pied bird (or split) and try to pair her with that bird.

Why haven't you said that earlier? This could direct to your first assumption of rec. pied although your bird doesn't look like that.

Because being unsure of the mutation of your "pied" bird if have send the pics to a friend of mine.
He thinks your bird is cinnamon misty. but i would go for cinnamon dom edged.
So sorry, no pied. ;)

Hi Madas,
Just another quick question, I am assuming you have seen the new photos of her I added the other day?
And in terms of value, and idea what a cinnamon normally costs?
I am from South Africa, and having never seen another bird the colour of my girl, I am not sure what they are worth.\
Thanks
