So my irn is approx 6 months old now, tame and friendly. I let him out of his cage just about all day everyday to be on his play top... i handle him daily and have tought him a couple tricks (turn around and gimmie a kiss). My cage had to be moved into the kitchen behind the sink because my baby could reach the cage in the living room and he woulda knocked it down eventually... Its nice cuz it motivates me to clean the area 1 to 2 times daily now, where as before i would go a week (lazy). Anyways, the problem i'm now facing is how incredibly loud my bird will get when its in there alone! I will bring him out into the living room daily, but my hyper dog will make him mad, or my baby will try to grab at him so leaving him on his cage is easiest.. i go in there and hold him and spend time with him in there daily tho either way. I dont know what else to do? And also, anything left on my counter top he will climb down and chew it up! He has a ton of toys, i trade them out every couple days and switch it up for him, always has food to eat in and out of the cage, but he's ruined a fake plant (that i can understand) a brand new deck of cards, anything paper sitting out... i just dont know what to do. My husband is beginning to get really annoyed and tells me i have to do something about it but i just dont know what to do here! any advice is much appreciated thanks. :?

Here are a few ideas for you... hopefully you'll find something in here helpful!

Have you thought about setting a birdie play area.... like a gym where your bird can hang out when he is out of the cage?

I recently bought a T-perch that is about 30 cms tall. It is designed to stand on a table. I can take it with me and let the bird sits on that when I go to another room. Eg. on the coffee table when I watch tv, on the kitchen bench when I am working in the kitchen. This could help both the noise and the getting into things he shouldn't.

Perhaps you should only let your bird out of the cage when you can supervise it?

That's about all I've got for now.

Good luck and best wishes!

Ellie.

definately a play perch is in order i think. ive got a table top (its actually the vivarium for my bearded dragon) and have converted the top into a bird play ground. very easy to do. natural branches and a bit of creativity. there is actually a sticky post about creative toys in the diet & housing section. maybe this would help. i think ellie has it right though, and agree with what shes said.
