I would not recommend clipping them yourself, but taking him/her to a pet store/ vet that is experienced and have them clipped, after having them clipped allow the little one a few days to settle then begin starting to interact and handle him/her.

Clipping the wings does make the taming process easier. Are you planning to allow the bird out of the cage so that you can interact with him/her? If so, then this is probably recommended. You can let them grow back next season if you want to. Did the previous owner claim that the bird is tame? I know that our two are really only tame for me and my husband... it takes a lot of time for their weariness of others to wear off.

I would also recommend getting the wings clipped by an expert.

Good luck!

Ellie.

Thanks for advise...i never meant to clipped by myself. Bird is not tame. i would let max stay in the cage for few weeks before i decide to let max out. so i think max should be fine as is

Are you intending him/her to have unclipped long wings throughout his/her life? i often feel clipping from a young age is a better choice, it eliminates the worry of your baby flying away and escaping, and they adapt quickly when it is done from small, it is also better in the taming process, they become more dependant on you, and trust you alot easier.
