Female accomodation problem with another male. Help me

Post by loulou »

Hello.
Here is my problem:

I have a irn (little alexander) parakeet female (5,5-6 years). Untill now from what I understood she was alone all the time in the cage. She had even an egg this cage in the cage. And in this period she looks she would lake some boyfriend. She sings in some special way and she is making some strange moves.
Now I bought her a male (4-4,5 years). He was raised with other birds so he was some trying to be some kind friendly with her.
But she is hunting him all the way. In the cage and in the room. Now I'm keeping the separated.
What should I do to make them friends and maybe in the spring they will have a tiny irn? :)

Thanks

Are you able to move her to a different room or cage. She thinks he is taking over her territory. if I get a new bird or have to swap some over I will totally take the original bird out and put it in a differnt aviary and then put the other in at the same time so they are both a bit shaken up and disorientated and its neither ones territory. Its a bit of a pain in the butt but it works for me.

Thanks for your reply.

But why she is hunting him even in the open room? Not only in the cage.

Because females are crazy.

Really, some females are just like that. She may really like him or really hate him. Hard to tell. Julie's suggestion was very good and worth a try.

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay
