We just became the "parents" of a 9 1/2 week old baby ringneck
Please tell me how warm we should keep our new baby?
What temperature should we try and keep the room at? What is the maximum temperature?
We have a 50 watt infrared globe. Is that too much? It loves to "bake"/bask under the globe.
Is it unsafe to be too close to the globe? How far must the globe be from it's perch?
Could the infrared damage it's eyes?
Will it influence the baby's sleeping pattern?

at that age it should not need a heat source

Depending on your location, at 9 1/2 weeks, your bird would be fully feathered and maybe even flying. Unless your house is sub zero temps or desert heat, then there really is no need for the little one to be kept at a certain temp. If you do have an aircon going in your house, make sure the bird has an area away from the cold draft.
My vet advised me to keep my birds away from direct contact with air cons or he could catch a chill.
I guess if he is spending time under the heat, then he must want to be there, otherwise he would move.
Animals are fairly hardy, I guess they need to be to survive in the wild.
Sounds like he has gone to a wonderful, caring home....congrats on him.
