Hi, I have a 7 month irn which o think is now traumatized
Earlier today his cage was knocked down by my pet dog which stormed into the house n knock it down the cage opened n out came "gringo" my IRN
My dog managed to grab hold of gringo but I stopped my dog jus before anything else happened
Thankfully no physical harm was done to gringo but I am now scared he is traumatized .
I haven't seen him since because I had to leave for work but before I left he was just standing with his head down and blinking very slow
Any help would be very much appreciated
Ps I'm very worried

Hi Walbz

I would think its not impossible for him to recover from this. I would say its going to take some time though, as it would not have been good for him.

I would also take him to the vet for a checkup. Only the slightest scratch is needed from a dog or cat and they can die. Keep us updated as to how he goes.

All the best

Shane

I agree with Shane. I would definitely recommend a vet check up.

Thankyou
I definitely will do that asap
Gringo is getting a bit better but he doesn't seem happy and energetic jus kind of walking slowly side to side and standing still mostly it's not really a very tame bird but I have been working on bonding with him.
Will this issue change him permanently?

Each bird is different, so one cannot know for sure... however, in my experience, they are quite resilient... but I have heard of them having long memories... eg. One lady I know who rescues poorly treated birds has found that one of her birds (not an IRN) has taken a dislike to all blonde women presumably because the person who mistreated her was a blonde woman. However, this would have been prolonged mistreatment, not a one-off incident.

I think that love and patience goes a long way with IRNs (and other animals and people too for that matter)!

... so I hope Gringo recovers and returns to his old self.... and to reiterate, if a bird is sick, they will try to mask it, so if he has internal injuries, you may not know, so that vet visit would be a good idea.

Good luck!

Ellie.
