TOTALLY BIZZARRE!

Hi,
I just wanted to ask a question about my IRN. I bought him around 3 months ago and he is around 2-3yrs old. When i brought him home he was great for the first few weeks.
Recently ( around a month ago) he has become really moody. He wont tolerate any visitors, he starts squawking with a high pitched horrible noise, puffs up his feathers, pins his eyes and threatens to bite. Its really horrible.
The other thing is he can be really moody towards us as well. Just randomly bites us and takes chunks.
Also Every night when he is taken to bed he tries to attack you from his cage and and screams at you, and also trys to bite you in the morn when getting him out. Its really starting to drive people nuts, because no one wants to handle him cos he bites everyone.
I just dont no what to do.
He gets heaps of attention, pretty much lives out of his cage and can wander all over the house. Will he ever be a nice bird again? I want him to be happy and easily handled. Bu im unsure of how to do this. Can there be meanings to theirs behaviour i.e. housin, diet etc?
Please help were going insane!.... Any info will be so appreciated :)

It sounds like he might be going through the "bluffing" stage. What does everyone else think?

If you do a search for threads on bluffing, you will find some good information about that.

Ellie.

By his age, he could also be entering sexual maturity (I think he is too old to be bluffing) and is just the victim of his hormones. He should settle down as the daylight shortens.

Hane had a particularly aggressive month which is finally easing off. Gave him lots of space and plenty of toys to shred to tiny pieces to let him work through it lol!

no, i dont think its totally bizarre. or bizzarre even.

your little one should get over the behaviour. mine went through a similar period, i think most do, as others have commented. if you still want to safely handle during this stage, you can got to a linen/craft shop and get a scrap piece of leather to drape over your hand while this period goes on. that way the chunks wont come out of your hand, but your bird still adjusts to being handled.
the irony of training is, giving them space during this stage means the adjust to that space and being left alone and can be difficult as they get older to retrain them with human contact again.

endure, he/she and you will be fine and happy!
