after alot of thought an consideration im getting an eclectus! im so excited i just had to tell someone! my family and man dont share the same passion for birds that i have but i know you all do!

im getting her from some breeders in caines, and there really awesome breeders. she is a SI eclecus and im so excited, she is costing me alot too! i had a breeder lined up down south but he was dodgey and i wasnt goin to buy a "bargain" bird, i wanted a healthy strong female....

i hope bella accepts her and she accepts bella...
does any one else own an ekkie or know of anyone who does with an IRN? im so excited!

I have Chief my pied, pearl cockatiel and two IRN girls.

The girls think they are above associating with a mere 'tiel and he could care less because he thinks they are mean b*tches... and they are.

He loves me most, even more than Baby loves me. A 'tiel is an AWESOME kids bird/first bird. You have made an awesome decision.

My family would not interact with the ringnecks but love lil' Chief. They handle him and now dont feel left out, thereby poking at my IRN's through the cage. Really dislike when they do that but they just want to play with the little meanies.

Cockatiel's are SO sweet. They want to be loved and want to love. They are, in my opinion, completely different than an Indian Ringneck. With the exeption of both sharing basically the same diet.

Good luck, lets us know how it works out. I am assuming you know better than to cage a 'tiel with an IRN but just in case let me put it out there. CANT... You'll come home to a dead tiel if your IRN's are anything like mine. I would imagine many others would advise the same.

i put the deposit down tonight so my baby eclectus is coming in 2 months once she is weaned and all.

Ha! I usually read posts at 5am-6am before getting the kids up.

I usually dont respond until later in the day but got all giddy about the new baby. Or I posted on the wrong thread. I cant even make heads or tails of it.

I am SO addicted. I want every bird I see. I keep saying in my head '30 yrs responsibility' and that keeps me in check. Otherwise, it would be out of control.

I am making myself wait until the spring to commit to an umbrella cockatoo. Because after my next bird, thats it.

Sorry for the confusion. It is lunch time now and I will try to refrain from posting until now, in the future hehe.

So true about a 'tiel, I thought mine needed new batteries but couldnt find where to put them. He is getting a little more active now, he is 4 mths old.

I'd just like to share the fact my breeder had IRNs and ekkies in the same aviary and the IRN hen killed the eclectus. So just be warned just because ekkies are bigger doesnt mean they can take care of themselves. Always house birds seperatly wherever possible. Unless you know they can be trusted together.
This was during breeding season so Pets may be different, but just be careful.

Female eclectus are STUNNING! wow you must be so excited, I randomly bumped into a girl at uni a few years ago who had a young female ecky on her arm, we stopped and chatted for ages, and the ecky kept laughing whenever we laughed... they are just beautiful!

an ecky is right up there on my 'dream bird' list.. second only to a black cockatoo i think!

i am so excited, mum thinks im so obessed with these birds i get home and play with bella then i sit on the computer looking up information on IRNs and ecckies!

hehe i keep on reading all cute story the ekkies do like for instance i read a story on the land of vos, where a lady had an afician grey and a female ekkie... what the hen used to do to the grey was sit there and go " tinks come here, step up, bad tink, no biting, good parrot tinks" to her aficain grey! they are so smart and im really excited! yay!

I would love to get and ekkie, apparently they are very close in skills to the african greys. They are flavour of the month here in Aust. and rather expensive so I have a choice, an ekkie or grey or save up and go back to see the family in Florida I miss so much. I know which one it is. see the family and enjoy my Kai that I love so much. But you know if I win Tattslotto or something, watch out , Bird woman in the making.. lol

:sighs: Wow I would love an ekkie but they are rather expensive. The females are sooo pretty. And the males! Stunning in that bright electric green. Maybe one of these days I'll get one...

even though they are expensive, if you shop around you can find good breeders who have very good prices... im getting my baby for 750. thats pretty good she comes with documents form the day she was born, medical records and some food. how good is that? Kyria your right they are up there with afician greys and amazons... they are so smart! im going to look at the breeders avariy on saturday! yay! (better be good were driving 2 hrs to get there! )

Sigh , even $750 right now is a bit much for me. Hubby freaked at the $150 I spent on Kai, and then he went and spent about $250 on wood to built him the mansion he lives in .. hehehe..

We drove 2 hours to go and see Kai , keep us up to date with how things go darlin.

awww thanks darl. the breeders real nice he invited us up for lunch! he seems real professional. ill guess ill find out when we go too see the avaires. my dad wants me too get 2 so i can breed them! haha i dont think im ready for that responsiblity yet, cause i wanna do everything perfectly right!

is there any spefic questions i can ask the breeder about his birds
ive asked the general ones (what sub-speices? h/r or p/r, how was it fed, is it handled much, how long have you been breeding for, what forumla do you use, is it socalized, how do you wean etc.) and he answered all questions very profesionally and i was very happy with all his metoeds but is there any thing im missing? should i ask for a health guarantee? any extra question help would be appecriated...

Yet when I was asked how much my cages were and chose not to say, I was accused of bragging. Yet I never even said how much the cage was.

So, careful with throwing around numbers Kyria, some people get their tail feathers ruffled. Just a warning.

You say what you want to say and tell what you want to tell, we will worry about them meanies later.

God forbid me actually saying what they cost. I would have been outcasted. I was slammed and didnt even give a price. HA!

Thanks for the warning darlin but its cool, any bird cage costs a fortune and we all spend way too much on our birds but its coz we love em. What other people say really means nothing in the bigger picture anyway, ya know what I mean
