Okay, Kozmo and Loki are both about 2-1/2 years old. We got them from the breeder when they were babies. They are siblings, and have always been in the same cage since hatching. The breeder told me that it was VERY unlikely that they would try and breed if they ended up being 1 male and 1 female. Well, that's what we ended up with.

Kozmo (the blue) is our female, and for some reason she has looked HORRIBLE for about 3 months now. She looks like she's always molting, her wings are ragged. I don't know what is going on with her. About the time she started looking like this she started acting funny and hiding in one of the food bowls when we'd go to let her and Loki out. She'll stay there till we walk a ways away from the cage and she realizes that she's going to be left if she doesn't come out. Also, neither her nor Loki are clipped. They both usually get around great, but Kozmo can't seem to really get around now. She flaps, and lands like she's clipped, but she's not.

Anyone have a clue what's wrong with her? Here's a couple pictures of what she looks like right now.

You never see her plucking? Does she cage with her brother? Is he gentle with her? Have we ruled out feather disease? This is where I would start.

She is still beautiful though, bless her heart.

A full moult can take months. It bothers us way more than them hehe. I honestly believe it is nothing more than that from the way her tail feathers look.

If anyone feels differently, please chime in. The only thing that concerns me only slightly is her landing like a brick.

No, I haven't really seen her plucking at all. They are both always in the same cage together. Loki is very gentle with her, most the time he just annoys her with his dancing, and she'll snap at him when she's tired of it. She's the boss of the cage.

Where would I begin searching on feather disease to see if that is maybe the problem?

You can order a testing kit from Avian Biotech, and send them a blood sample to have your birds tested for PBFD, or even add other disease testing if you wish. I test all of our birds through them, and the results are quick and accuate.

I just obtain the blood sample through normal grooming from a clipped toenail. If you do not groom the birds yourself you could always ask the groomer or vets office to obtain the sample during grooming for you.

Had hubby ran this by me before doing it, I would have retrieved everything but he didnt realize what he was doing. He thought he was cleaning the system up.
