At last....a bubby

The last 2 seasons for my blue cinnamon (sky) Indian Ringneck hen have been dud clutches so I didn't really hold much hope for anything again this time round.
I changed her male partner to a proven Grey/ino male in the hopes she would have better luck.
Well, it turns out she did!!!!

I checked the box this afternoon as she was due from now till Tuesday at the latest. I tapped the box to let the hen know I was going for a peek and I heard a little muffled noise. I looked, then looked again. The hen moved around a bit then I heard it again, this time a louder chirp. The hen moved away revealing a nakid pink blob!!!
I am so excited as I was thinking after so many unsuccessful eggs that she may have had fertility problems.
Now the excitment continues to see if any of the other 3 eggs will hatch.
Just LURV breeding season. lol
Will post pics of the little tyke when mumma leaves the nest.

Thanks Sarah. There is still a chance that yours could go down for a second clutch.
A second baby was in the nest this morning. Mumma was off having her fruit and veg so quickly took a few photos while I had the chance. 2 eggs to go......
Photos were taken with my phone and in a hurry so not that good but you can still see them.
Here are a couple of pics that was promised.

Babies: 1 day and 2 days old. I think the eldest one is ontop of the younger one. Bit hard to tell the difference in the photo but in the nest there is a noticeable size difference even after just one day apart in hatching.
Hopefully tomorrow will see THREE bubs in nest.

Congrats. I never got over how small, helpless and cute (in the true sense of the word - ugly, but nice) baby birds are.
I hope to be able to breed mine in a year or so.
Regards
Ellie.

Thank you both.
I am actually amazed at how big the chicks are when you consider how small the egg is. Did all of that
really come from in there!

Thanks ppl.
Still only 2 bubs in nest as of this morning. Not sure if the other 2 eggs will hatch or not. The hen did have a 3 or 4 day gap between laying the first 2 eggs from the last 2, so guess there is still a slight chance of the other 2 eggs hatching.
Still 2 chicks is better than 0.
Julie, hopefully yours will get the lovebug soon. There are a few pairs breeding and laying eggs around your area now.

Update:-
Only 2 chicks ended up hatching. They are just over 3 weeks old today. I removed from the nest last night for hand raising. First feed this morning went well. Yay
No inos in this clutch...maybe next time.

These 2 should be blue and/or grey, unless the parents have more splits than I know of.
Here they are at 16 & 17 days old....
and 23 & 24 days old (today)....
and already showing signs of cheekiness

Here they are at 4 weeks and 2 and 3 days old.
Having a little scratch...
And the grey dude, (aka Sputnik), strutting his/her stuff on own...
It really is amazing how just one day in age difference does make.
The blue (older), is a little smaller, but has much more feather development than the grey.

You're doing a great job with them. They're beautiful!

Thanks Ellie
They are very placid little ones. Don't hear much from them until they see me, then they give their little "aaahhhhh" cries. So so cute, just melts the heart.
Although, they did "growl" at Rafiki yesterday when he made a lot of loud noise.

They're georgeous! They look so healthy. Well done! Do you find the hand feeding exhausting?
Ellie.

Thanks Ellie.
No I do not find hand feeding exhausting, in fact I LOVE it.
Sometimes it can be challenging if the chickies decide they want to be fussy eaters.
But I guess it would depend on my lifestyle and work load as to if my opinion would change.
I do leave the chicks with the parents for at least 3 weeks if possible, so the parents get to do all the hard feeds and I take over on the easier not-so-frequent feeds. ;)

When I went to
http://www.parrotsinparadise.net/, Dale was saying that she shares the feeding duties with the parents of her Eclectus. Do you know if anyone manages this with ringies? I think that sounds like a "best of both worlds" option if it was possible.
Ellie.

I do not know of anyone doing this.
I have been told where, on occasions, some breeders do give a feed/s to the chicks still in the nest if the parents are not doing their job properly, as sometimes, chicks do not have a feeding response or the parents are inexperienced. But stop once the parents have taken over.
If these people are able to feed the Eclectus chicks while still in the nest, then they must have very quiet birds. From what I have read and been told by Eckie breeders, the parents become very protective of their chicks and can become quite vicious even if the parents were tame r handraised to begin with.

Their eclectus pairs are exceptionally tame... but I'm not sure how they manage the duel feeding. I wonder if she waits until the chicks are older (out of the nest but not fully weaned). If I ever go back there I must ask.
