I noticed blood spattered on my little Max's feet a couple of weeks ago coming from somewhere around his vent. I went straight to the vet thinking he may have flopped onto the ground and cut it somehow. The vet said to leave it for a few days and see if it improved.
It didn't.
Had a BIG scab of dried blood which one day got knocked off and lots of blood on the floor. Different vet gave it all a cleanup and some antibiotic cream that I had to apply 3 times a day. Ever since then Max has been miserable and grumpy and hasn't made a noise.
I am going to go back to the vet if it doesn't improve, but how long will it take for my birdy to be back to normal? He flies off me straight away (wings are clipped so he hits the deck hard) and runs off behind stuff or under stuff (the car this morning....)?

Im so sorry to hear that Stu! It is not at all fun for Max, along with a nasty injury he hs been poked and prodded by unknown vets!

Please be sure you have an avian experienced vet and that you get this injury sorted first. As for his behaviour he may take days, weeks, months to be back to his old self.... if ever I know that it will be hard for both of you but he needs your love and understanding and mostly patience right now.

I know you want your baby back but keep on mind how very sensitive Irn's are. A simple wing clip throws them into a trance for a week.

Are you aware how lucky you are your bird clotted in your absence? EXTREMELY lucky. A nail trim can be a birds demise.

I would try to keep things as close to the way they were before the accident. The fellas are all about stability.

Try to get him to relate to the Boo Boo by talking to him while you put the cream on "How did my baby get this ol Boo Boo blah blah." But seems happy, as if all is well.

He may be concerned with his own health and need to be reassure he will be ok and back to his old self.

This analogy should be my signature but here goes: If you can look at a 2-5 yr old child and communicate with them you can also communicate JUST AS WELL with an indian ringneck, assuming you interact as you would a child in that age range. They understand us. Period. They know whats happening.
