Hi all !
ive recently got a 10 week old indian ringneck who has been parent reared but is semi tame. He/She happily takes food and fruits from our hands but sometimes gets a little aggressive and tries a cheeky bite, and he/she doesnt come on hands either. I am looking for advice on how to fully tame this little bird.
thanks

Hi Olive
As your can probably ascertain by my previous posts, I certainly don't have all of the answers!
... but in my limited experience with our two, I have found that it's basically spending time with them and patience that make the difference. When they are old enough, teaching them to do tricks can be good ways to provide the bird with stimulation and also serve to bond you with the bird. The first trick I taught both my birds was the turn around... It's a good one to start with because it doesn't rely on you handling the bird. Teaching tricks takes an awful lot of patience and repetition but I have found it extremely rewarding and satisfying.
When we brought our youngest home, even though he had been hand-raised, he was still quite frightened of us, he was too scared to even take food from our hands. With him, I started the taming process by placing treats on a plastic spoon and I gradually moved the treat closer and closer to my hand until we didn't need the spoon any more.
I'm sure some more experienced people will offer you more in-depth advice. The sticky post in this forum "10 Steps to a Better Relationship with Your Bird" has some really good advice too.
Enjoy your IRN baby!
Ellie.
