As most of you know kai went to the vet to have the right wing clipped after I found out that the breeder was wrong in clipping just one.

He didn't like it and pouted .. BUT .. only for the rest of that day. The following day I helped him with the stand dad had made. To get him use to it and climbing up the spiral perches, I put my finger behind them and told him to step up, and he did right onto the perch and the next , then he went it on his own.

Once at the top and able to see outside our lounge windows, he began chattering and investigating. He LOVES ! it. So much so, when I went to get him to take him back to his cage , he pushed my hand away with his beak, and again, and again. Kai ! step up I command, he then wraps his open beak over my finger and looks up at me with his eye, like saying "don't or I will have to bite you". I stayed right in that position, but remembered "never back away, be the boss". so I rolled my hand away and under, presenting the fisted blade and pushed the issue, "STEP UP!" .. he stepped up. Yayyyy! I'm the boss ! hehehehe.

He LOVES!! that new stand soooo much, I really think it helped him to get over the vet ordeal.

So anyway having both wings clipped has seen Kai a much happier and much more confident Bird. Now I can see how much trouble he was having before with balance. He lands straighter now off a low jump, and he clammers around his cage like never before, even hangs off the roof upside down. He NEVER was that agile before, well now thinking of it, of course not, imagine putting his wings out to gain balance and having one wing longer and heavier than the other, it must have been throwing him right off.

By the way , the vet that clipped him did a wonderful , very neat job, that wing is so pretty, even has enough smaller feathers to have a tiny cross over at the back. I can't wait for his moult and new feathers so I can have the other wing as pretty. The breeder really did just hack off the feathers in one shot and they are very squared off and jagged.

Anyway all is fantastic on the Kai clipped front :D .. Thanks again so much for the advice and noticing that my darling had an issue, without this board he would have gone his whole life , just not right.

.. Cheers! to ya all

You are great!

Had you backed down, he would have bluffed for days maybe. Baby warns before a bite too, Boo doesnt.

Baby opens her mouth like a cobra. Ewww scary bird.

Thank you for getting that baby clipped correctly. I will be along shortly to wack that breeder with my purse.

She is being haaaateful tonight.

She doesnt allow us to have company. She finds it very rude that we disrespect her wishes so she pouts, sits in the back of her cage and grrrrr tucks her head when I ask her to step up. She can be such a ... you know what!

She acts like Im not even there, doesnt even hear me... ruffles up and tucks her head. To me, that is the equivalant of flipping me the bird, no pun intended.

I'm happy Kai is a better bird for it.

The one wing clip is still normal for some people. And I just saw an african grey in the paper that flew away with only one wing clipped.

At least Kai is healthier now. :)

You know, his whole personality has changed, and it just seems too weird to be a coincidence. He isn't scared or fluttering all the time, he use to flutter each time he had to step up, he would always seem so scared and unstable now he is full of love and confidence. Its totally wonderful.

:D :D :D
